In Japan, complex animal and human automata were built between the 17th to 19th centuries, with many described in the 18th century Karakuri zui (Illustrated Machinery, 1796). One such automaton was the karakuri ningyō, a mechanized puppet. Different variations of the karakuri existed: the Butai karakuri, which were used in theatre, the Zashiki karakuri, which were small and used in homes, and the Dashi karakuri which were used in religious festivals, where the puppets were used to perform reenactments of traditional myths and legends.

On 20 May 2016, Minecraft China was announced as a localized edition for China, where it was released under a licensing agreement between NetEase and Mojang.

Minecraft Classic is a browser remake of the 2009 Classic version of Minecraft. The game was released on 7 May 2019, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Minecraft. Minecraft Classic recreates the game as it was in 2009, including the bugs present in the 2009 version of Minecraft.

Minecraft Earth is an augmented reality game that was announced by Microsoft in May 2019. The game allows players to interact with the world and build Minecraft-style structures and objects that persist and can be modified by other players. The game implements the resource-gathering and many of other features of the original game in an augmented-reality setting. The game had a beta release in July 2019,

Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon crawler game that was announced at MineCon 2018 and released on 26 May 2020. Set in the Minecraft universe, the game can be played alone or in a party of up to four people.

IGN was disappointed about the troublesome steps needed to set up multiplayer servers, calling it a “hassle”.
